Lesson Terms & Policies

Practical information about enrollment, tuition, attendance, and studying in the studio.

Last updated October 1, 2026

Term-specific information. Exact tuition, payment dates, lesson times, calendar dates, and any term-specific arrangements are provided in writing at enrollment.

01Enrollment & Tuition

Enrollment is for the full semester. Tuition reserves the student’s recurring lesson time and covers the semester program.

When tuition is divided into installments, the installments are a payment schedule for the full semester. They do not create month-to-month enrollment.

Voluntary withdrawal does not automatically cancel the remaining tuition obligation. Any exception, credit, or refund must be agreed in writing and remains subject to applicable law.

Where credit-card payment is used, it is processed through Stripe. The studio does not store full card numbers.

Books, scores, examination fees, equipment, and other materials are separate unless expressly stated as included.

02Scheduling & Attendance

Each student receives a recurring lesson time. Lessons begin and end on time. Late arrival normally shortens the lesson so that the next student’s time is not affected.

My Music Staff and email are the studio’s principal administrative communication channels. Scheduling, billing, attendance, lesson information, and studio notices may be sent through either channel.

Students and parents are responsible for keeping their contact information current and reviewing studio communications.

Automated reminders are a convenience. A missing or delayed reminder does not cancel a scheduled lesson.

03Cancellations & Makeup Lessons

A minimum of twenty-four hours’ notice is required for a student cancellation. Notice may be given through My Music Staff or by email.

  • At least twenty-four hours’ notice: a makeup or rescheduling opportunity may be offered, subject to availability and any limits communicated for the semester. A particular replacement time is not guaranteed.
  • Less than twenty-four hours’ notice or a no-show: the lesson is treated as missed and is not made up, except where the studio agrees to an exception because of a genuine emergency.
  • Studio cancellation: the lesson will be rescheduled, or credited if a replacement time cannot reasonably be arranged.

A makeup lesson is a scheduling accommodation. It does not change the semester tuition or extend the semester unless the studio agrees otherwise in writing.

04Practice & Preparation

Consistent, thoughtful practice is essential. Practice expectations are set according to the student’s age, level, schedule, and goals. Students are expected to review assignments and lesson notes and to ask when something is unclear.

Regular access to a suitable instrument is required. An acoustic piano should be maintained and tuned. A digital piano should normally have eighty-eight weighted, touch-sensitive keys and a functioning sustain pedal.

Students are responsible for obtaining assigned scores, books, and other materials when needed.

05Online Lessons

Lessons are offered online worldwide. Students need a stable internet connection, suitable audio and video, and a camera position that allows the keyboard, hands, and posture to be seen.

Students should join early enough to resolve routine setup problems before the lesson begins.

A student-side technical problem that prevents the lesson from taking place is treated in the same way as a student absence. A studio-side technical failure is treated as a studio cancellation.

06Group Classes & Recitals

Musical Foundations, group classes, and an end-of-term recital are included in the standard semester and form part of the learning experience.

Participation is expected, although no penalty is imposed if a student does not attend. A missed group class or recital is a missed learning opportunity and does not create a refund, credit, or substitute private lesson.

07Students Under Eighteen

The studio is primarily designed for adults. Talented and motivated children or teenagers may be accepted at the studio’s discretion.

For a student under eighteen, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for enrollment, tuition, scheduling, and policy communication. The student may communicate directly with Monique about lessons and assignments as appropriate for their age.

08Recordings & Permissions

The studio’s collection and use of personal information is described in the Privacy Policy.

Lessons and classes are not recorded by default. A recording, photograph, performance excerpt, testimonial, or other identifying material is used publicly only with written consent from the participant, or from a parent or legal guardian when the participant is a minor.

09Policy Updates

The studio may revise these policies for future semesters. A material change affecting an active semester will be communicated directly in writing.
